I know this has been asked before, but I cannot find the post. Every time I boot up, my computer idles for about 30 seconds before I get my desktop. I have used system mechanic, and put the boot time to zero, and I even custom reinstalled my sound card and diabled the dos start up files, but I still have the same idle problem. My specs are below, and thanks for any help.

win 98se
1.2 amd t-bird
msi k7t pro 2-a
512 ram
sound blaster live value
geforce 3 ti 200
maxtor 40 gig hd
sony cdrw

If you have an unused network adapter, manually assign this IP and Subnet mask:

192.168.1.100
255.255.255.0

This way it won't have to wait for an address assignment that's not coming (no DHCP server).

Thanks Bill, that was the ticket. There is still alittle idle time, but not near as before I made the changes you recommended.
