I currently have an onboard Adaptec 2940u2w controller.. I will however be upgrading my system and plan to add a SCSI controller to migrate over my SCSI devices...
Will the current Ultra2 LVD cable that I am using work with an ultra160 drive? I think that they use the same type of cable but I thought I would ask..
Which SCSI adapter are you planning to upgrade to? I know for sure that Adaptec 19160, 29160N, 29160, 29160LP, and 39160 will be compatible with LVD 68Pin. You'll have no problems since most Ultra160 SCSI adapters are made to be backwards compatible....
From Adaptec ~ A hallmark of SCSI's evolution has been seamless backward compatibility to protect technology investments. This guarantees that a wide range of legacy SCSI devices--hard drives, CD ROMs, tape drives, optical storage, and scanners--can continue to be used with new Ultra160 SCSI cards, and existing SCSI devices can be used as a user upgrades to a new system.

I will probably purchase the 19160 or 29160 series of Adaptec cards..
I know the drives are compatible... just wondering about the cable itself..
ATA33 and ATA66/100 cables are different.. I'm wondering if Ultra2 and Ultra160 cables are different...

I swapped my 29160N (32bit) for the TEKRAM DC390 U3W. I jsut love it!
Before you buy look at tekram, they're much cheaper than adaptec, they got great features, identical performance, perfect support and, did I say they're cheap.
This card is 32/64bit (like the 29160 -no N), comes with all the cables you want plus an external 50pin panel so that if you plug external non LVD devices you won't have to run your HD in SE, drivers for all OS's (MS and all Unix and Be).
cheap.

What's the price difference between a Tekram Ultra160 32bit/64bit and Adaptec 29160 64bit?
