I've heard they are pretty much the same drive. Is one better than the other (not including the software packages)??

Which one should I buy?

As far as I know they are the same drive.

The TDK comes with Nero.

The Plextor comes with Adaptec software.

Both are the same drive. The TDK is usually a little more expensive.

I'd take Nero over Easy CD Creator. But thats just me. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Like 3bean said....I read in maximumpc magazine that they basically the same drive with different burning software.
BTW, they put the TDK slightly above the Plextor because of the software.
I have the Plextor 12-10-32...works great

I already have EZ CD Creator and Nero 5.0 so the included software isn't really important.

I've heard they are the same drive but the TDK has a max DAE speed of 32X and the Plextor has a max DAE speed of 24X. I was just wondering if there were any other differences between these two supposedly "exact" burners.

Also, how is the burning software that comes with the Plextor?

They are the exact same...DAE will be the exact same. I have the Iomega 12x10x32 ($99) which is the exact same drive as well. I even managed to change the drive ID to a plex an upgraded it to the plex firmware 1.07 which enabled 32x DAE. Just buy the cheaper drive.

The Plextor manager 2000 software has three programs. The "discdupe 2000" works well to copy discs from one drive to the cdrw or to and from hard drive image. The "audio capture 2000" is a very good digital audio extraction program for cd to .wav. The "MVP 2000" plays audio fine but i have had some trouble using it to burn cd's so for my own cd compilations i use easy cd creator deluxe. As Gomer said dae on the plextor is also up to 32x with 1.07 or 1.08 firmware.

I have a Plextor 12/10/32 internal IDE drive and use CloneCD to make working backups of any CD I have ever copied. I have friends that have the TDK Burner and they could not make a working backup of some games, but my Plextor burner had no problems making a working copy. Thats just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

I really like the Plextor software. Diskdupe has worked flawlessly for me.Not a coaster yet! Dont think their shipping adaptec with em anymore.
