I have a problem with my mouse, which is not working at all. I have Windows 2000 Professional
and when I acces Control Panel/Mouse/Hardware tab, no mouse is detected.
I also used another serial mouse but the same thing happened: it was not recognized at all. I
thought this could be a windows problem not detecting the driver and a reinstalled Win2000. But
mouse is still not working. No mouse cursor appeares. Could it be an internal problem?
Please help!!!!

2 things
might be really the mouse is defective.
or...
you might have an IRQ conflict.
to find out go into your BIOS and dissable ACPI, then manually configure yout IRQ to be unique for each item

Did you say you were using a serial mouse?
Make sure that your COM ports turned on. Check and make sure they are enabled in the bios, and that the IRQ for the COM port is not conflicting with any other devices.
Some questions:
- Was the mouse working on this machine before?
- Have you tried USB or PS/2 mice?
- (If you can install another OS) will the mouse work under another OS?
Hope you find the problem...

I also recommend getting a optical USB mouse. It will prolly be better anyhow (that is if your computer has USB ports.) :)

thanks a lot!!!
Yes, it was the mouse. First, I used an emulator, on the parallel port... then I tried with Win98, I moved the mouse's wheel and the cable when booting and the mouse pointer moved. The wire was broken. So, I bought a new mouse. I still cannot understand why the second mouse wasn't working. It is working on other computers.
Anyway, THANKS a LOT!!!
