MP3 playback

when I play a MP3 cd and use the net at the same time , everytime I scroll down the sound slows way down and stutters.when I stop I get normal sound .
sound card is a SB 16 on a Abit BX6 r2 board
anyway I can cure this ??

What MP3 player are you using? I heard that the newer versions of Winamp are terrible on system resources. I use an older version (2.09) without any problems.

Actually, I've been told it's a problem with older 8 and 16 bit sound cards trying to use system memory that the videocard has dibs on. I think there's some setting you can mess with in bios for video ram shadowing or something, I just bought a better video card (tnt2), but that may not be an option for you....

btw, yes, I bought a tnt2, and still didn't think about replacing an 8bit soundcard scrounged from a 386

Just turn it up to realtime. That should do the trick

Thanks for the reply's but no joy on setting realtime on .I also downloaded winamp 1.52- 1.9-2.24 but all slowed down , so it looks like I will have to upgrade my sound card .

All you have tried is WINamp? I agree, get a 32 bit card, but try a different MP3 player first!

It could well have something to do with the video card in your system.

I was using for a while the Voodoo Rush from Intergraph and they had a DLL patch that fixed that problem on my machine. I now use a Voodoo Banshee (Creative) and I have no problems with this. I noticed it mostly when scrolling up/down in my web browser

Cuz maybe your comp cant handle scrolling down and playing/decoding a MP3 at the same time! Winamp kills my system when i have a long playlist on it..I use Sonique now...thing looks WAY better, Skins look WAY better..lotsa stuff are just WAY better. The playlist editor is a step behind Winamps but thats about it
