A virus posing as a photo of Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova spread aggressively on Monday, as major security companies rushed to update their antivirus software to detect the fast-spreading e-mail virus.

"Compared to the 'Love Bug', it's spreading twice as fast," said Alex Shipp, antivirus technologist with British e-mail service MessageLabs. In the five hours since MessageLabs detected the infection, its users have received almost 2,900 copies of the infected e-mail sent from more than 290 different domains.

Yup!! It tried to come in at about 1100hrs. today, got caught, and was automatically deleted. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I got the message from a friend of mine who is the IT Man at his company. I let him know and he felt bad. I'm just not sure if he felt bad for it being sent to me, or the fact it couldn't get through my defenses. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

P.S. Dr. Vette -- I would have posted it earlier, but I was on the run and just had the chance to come here now. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Sharder, I'm surprised that our IT guys didn't send an alert.

I found after searching for my NT problem, just happened upon it..

Luck of the draw..

Yup. Caught one of our machines here. It just happened to be the oldest/slowest rig we had so we just physically took it off line, then proceeded to double-check the rest of the network to make sure all it clean...and it was.

The old machine will become a parts dispenser. It was a P2/266. Nice thing is, when I opened up the box I notice Slotted CPU has this ultra-cool custom heatsink. Nice big fins and the contact surface of the sink extends about 1.5 inches beyond the CPU, but where the sinks surface stop making contact with the CPU it then has vents for more air flow. I've seen a number of cool sinks like this in Dell machines. At least Dell's good for something. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Ever had that sinking feeling?... like you just Really screwed up?

Rats...

Note to self... Check Sysopt before checking e-mail...

*edit*
Whew... false alarm here... guess it was just a coincidence a co-worker sent a (wink-wink.jpg) of Anna K. earlier today. (No .VBS extension). Two updated virus scans later and it's still coming up clean.

****. We've blocked this stupid virus over a dozen times since yesterday a.m. This thing's really gettin' around.

Oh well, no worries here. "You keep a knockin' but you can't come in."
