I have just installed a Sound Blaster PCI 128 and would like to hook up a headset to it for internet conferencing. The following ports are available:

Line In (blue)
Microphone (red)
Line Out/SPDIF Out (green)
Rear Out (black)

The microphone parts works great, but I cannot get any sound to the earpiece of the headset except by hooking it to the green port where the computer speakers are connected. Is it possible to have both the computer speakers and the headphones hooked up together so that I do not have swap out the connections in order to use one or the other. (real hassle since case is located inside the desk).
I used a SB Live on another system and it works great.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

There are 2 things you can do. One, you can change the speaker setup on your computer in the options for your SBLive to a 4 speaker setup. This will turn on the rear port on the card and you can plug the headset into the rear (black) port. The other option is to buy a splitter. You can get one at Radio Shack or wherever for a couple dollars. That's what I did to mine, and I have my computer speakers hooked up as well as a stereo in my living room hooked up.

Just drop by Radio Shack an pick up a standard 1/8" stereo y-splitter so you can hook up both to the same jack. If need be, you can also pick up an inline volume control for your headphones, so as to turn them off while playing games or sound at high levels through your speakers so you don't damage the smaller headphone speakers. Shouldn't cost you but a few dollars to get this config up and going.

Good Luck,

Plug into the Rear jack and set your Speaker setup to 4 Speakers (Audio HQ|Speakers) and slide the Fader to the Rear when you want to use the Headset.
