Stefan sontawila 08-07-2002, 10:00 PM Will my question is how do ASP,PHP,XML interact with database like SQL2000,ADO? qball 08-08-2002, 01:56 AM its for my class... in my day, we did OUR own homework. I, at least, know the answer. Did you ask the teacher? If you did, what'd they say? If you didn't, how do you determine 'USEFUL'? You/someone is paying for the class/teacher, btw. If YOU don't wanna learn, don't expect me/anyone to do it for ya. Stefan vibe666 08-12-2002, 05:57 PM I believe a good point was made earlier in this post. If you are in a class, then ask the teacher. Tell him you don't understand it and it's his job to make it make sense for you, if he can't do that then he's not much of a teacher is he/she? ***viBe*** The Sysopt.com Users 2002 SETI@home team website is now ONLINE!!! Tell him you don't understand it and it's his job to make it make sense for you, if he can't do that then he's not much of a teacher is he/she? You r right so was qball but he didn`t need to put it in that way. I was simply asking for some pointers thats all.;) vibe666 08-13-2002, 09:41 AM When I first started posting here I ended up in a flame war with another poster (Anyone remember DSypher?) which got quite ugly, but I got through it, and learned a little restraint when posting here. There is a lot of sarcasm in these forums, but 99% of the time it's not meant to offend anyone as we all have a certain amount of closeness with each other, and a lot of the time do it without thinking that someone may not take it the way it was meant. :p I would say that you've learnt a little about the general mood here and if you can put this behind you, you will, I'm sure find us very helpful in the future, as I'm sure you will be helpful to others less technically minded than yourself. :p ***viBe*** The Sysopt.com Users 2002 SETI@home team website is now ONLINE!!! Whenever in doubt, I google (http://www.google.com/) it. ------------- Ironik311 official Google endorser :D AltatemTC 08-14-2002, 12:34 PM ASP - Active Server Pages is a server side scripting language which can among other things retrieve data from databases, provide 'dynamic' content, etc. It is widely used on the Windows Server family of products. PHP - Serves the same purpose as ASP. It is widely used on Linux servers. SQL 2000 - SQL database, it stores the data XML - a markup language which is particularly suited to presenting data via a browser ADO - ActiveX Data Objects, an interface used to access a database. Among the databases it can access are, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access. It is not limited to Microsoft products but can be used to interface with any database with a provider. How do the communicate with each other is a somewhat complicated answer but I will attempt to make this simple. It won't cover every possibility. ASP and PHP are not really designed to communicate with each other. Although they can via XML or SOAP providing the web developers have decided to do so. They can also 'communicate' with each other via http. ASP and I assume PHP (I have never used PHP) can communicate with SQL Server 2000 utilizing ADO. ADO will allow ASP and PHP to retrieve data, call stored procedures from which they can retrieve results, update data, etc. XML can display the data returned by ASP via DAO from SQL Server 2000. I hope this helps. vibe666 08-14-2002, 01:15 PM nicely explained AltatemTC, I hope that helps sontawilla in his search for wisdom. ***viBe*** The Sysopt.com Users 2002 SETI@home team website is now ONLINE!!! Come get some :D qball 08-14-2002, 11:16 PM go qball go! People actually read this stuff?? lol. Hey, regardless of what most think, I'm just trying to help. AltatemTC, good info, and just fyi PHP can connect to SQLServer not through ADO (that MS object), but thru ODBC driver (yechy performance) or a third party driver. I've done access thru ODBC. see: http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.sesam.php Now this may be a bad attitude, but If you don't like my answers, ignore 'em. I don't and won't expect people to be PC, I prefer freedom of speech. I don't take much of this personally, just seems everyone else does? If my answers are logically wrong, point it out, I can learn too! lol. sontawila 08-15-2002, 08:19 PM Thanks guys , you all been very helpful:) (Specialy AltatemTC and qball) SysOpt.com
