What RPGs do you enjoy playing? Are there any RPGs that are free?

Legend (aka four crystals of trazere), and no, it's not free, but it comes on 2 floppies and is from soemthing like 1991, so you might be able to pick it up cheaply from a garage sale or something.

**** good game, tough, but **** good, not really an rpg in the typical sense, but it's in that genre (actually it's a lot like baldurs gate).

Like the RPG from Duke Nukem 3D? LoL, just kidding.

I myself enjoy the Baldur's Gate series. It's good for single play...you know, when your home alone and have nothing else better to do. All the free RPGs I've seen have sucked, so if you did find a good one, it'd be a miracle. :)

Well if you do like baldurs gate then check out legend, although beware the 320x240 vga

Actually the graphics are the best graphics I have ever seen from that time, it's isometric 3D and everything! the graphics at the time were groundbreaking.

The movies were great! Lineage was really cool and I hope to be able to play soon.

Is Anachronox you pay by month or just buy it in the store?

Hmmm....well, maybe its me thats stuck in the old school
of RPG (have been playing for the last 8 years, both the
standard way -> around a table with a GM, and through
the computer), but I still hold a penny on the good old
MUDS (Multiuser Dungeons) and then specially on LP-Muds.
(Have also been on the Battletech 3036 some years ago).

For those of you that doesnt know what a MUD is, mud
is a text-based roleplay where you use a telnet session
to connect to the game. Yes, thats right, text based.
No pictures, no sound. It all floats around in your head,
using the best 3D engine of them all. Your fantasy. :)

Well, the one that I'm playing is called ' Final Realms' and
are located in Norway. The adress is :
telnet fr.hyssing.net 4001 and its an LP-MUD. (Use a
searchengine to get more info on the different types,
or take a look at http://www.mudconnector.com

Yes, have also played BG, Morrowind, Anarchy Online,
EverQuest, Ultima etc etc...but there is something about
the mud....hard to explain.

Just my 2 cents.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and fallout are best RPGs i've ever played. Although if you pick up a copy of BG1 or Fallout 1 now they seem dated because their sequels improved on the games so much.

I'd like to play a more futuristic one but I HATE ANIME WITH A PASSION and thats all that furutistic stuff is.

what are you talking about?
Anime is the best stuff ever.
that's what drives the economy and the computer evolution.
where do you think all the newest technology and games are comming from?
where do you think all the PS2, Nintento, all kind of other consoles are comming from?, that even goes for the Xbox, believe it or not.

The style of art? The television/movie stuff? What do you hate about it? Just curious, since I first saw Starblazers when I was 10 I've been a fan. Have you seen the Final Fantasy: Spirits Within movie? Does this fall into the anime catagory?

RPGs? I'm hooked on 'em. I like all that "Beardy Wierdy" :D stuff!

The Baldur's Gates were good but they lost me on the last expansion. I thought Planescape: Torment was an exceptional story wrapped up in an RPG.

I'm limping though NWN right now and not really enjoying it. I think I got a bad case of Diabloitus and now inanely clicking on monsters and watching them get mulched doesn't do much for me. I know it ain't RPG, but a nice game of online Wolfenstein gets me going nowadays.

I'm holding out for Galaxies and the new generation of online role-players. If they can mix up some of the thrills (and uncertainty of live targets) that you get in online shooters with an online world with some depth to it, I'm in.

I could tell you what this is a screenshot of, but then I'd have to kill you. This is coming out Christmas time-ish by a major publisher and is an online role-player currently in Beta.

Let see i grew up with Voltron in the 80's. I liked that (if you consider that anime).

I went to an art college (where I saw plenty of anime nutcases) especially since there was a comic boook design major at school.

What I hate about anime:

1) I hate the style of art (the blue hair, big spiky hair, big boots, etc)

2) I hate the voices they use in any tv show

3) I hate hte animation, most of it really blows and is just repeating frames or set at multiple frame repitition (believe me I took a bunch of 2D animation classes in college).

4) I hate how everything seems so sloppy and sketched but sketched bad. I like more finished 2D art or 3D art for that matter.

5) I HATE POKEMON and all those other mon things. And yes I know what they are all about, my roomate (unfortunately was a anime nutfreak and dressed as an anime character, had pokemon **** up the ****, and lived anime).

6) Consoles....well i havent had a console in about 10-12 years...Not my thing for most part. Although I did used to catch up on some Nintendo back in the 80's ;) Oh yeah I hate turn based games (eg. final fantasy). The only anime games I can honestly say I had fun playing where Chrono Trigger for SNES. Thats well made (non turn based) game.

But your probably asking well he hasnt played any of them. Well I have seen nearly all of them since my roomate had over 400 playstation games, most of them anime related.

7) anime doesnt drive the economy...people buying stuff drives the economy and the world doesn revolve around anime (although my old roomate would beg to differ).

8) I dont understand how badly drawn 2d animation, with bad framerates, many with bad storylines (many of those tv kid shows are based on japanese animation) horrible voice acting, characters so outlandish its absurd, is so popular. I just don't understand.

Hmmm Final Fantasy Spirits Within...not sure if it classifies as anime. Parts of it does, has the typical bad storyline but is realistic looking and has other elements which are not. Just the Final Fantasy name alone doesnt make it anime. The animation was very good though, I went to see it with my 3D animation class in college.

What I like about anime: I like how the theme is generally futuristic. There needs to be more fururistic RPGs for PC that arent anime. Too much is fantasy based.

I'm sure you have just enough reasons why you like it and thats good, there a billion other people out there who like it too.

Another PC RPG game is Septerra Core, in my opinion its kinda lame...

On the Anime subject, DBZ is awesome

AllGamer

Yup Yup :D

being so **** old, both the DBZ series, and myself, i still like it heck a lot.

it's **** funny.

i watched the whole original DBZ in Japanese, but man it was **** boring not understanding a F***ing thing about what those guys are talking about in Japanese.

so now i'm finally enjoying it here translated all into plain english.

i just couldn't believe how much i was misssing out.

no, it was a shame, no english subtitle, it was all original japanese.

But out of all the Anime i like, the one that truely amazes me, and i fell deeplyin love with, is with the Macross Saga, or what we Americanos call here the ROBOTECH series.

it's just the best thing ever.

oh by the way ROBOTECH 3089 is due out soon. that's a few years.
Harmony Gold is resuming production, just about a year back, the revived the whole Robotech thing.
:D :r :t :p

Best RPG would be the Final Fantasy series! :) :) :) They all have great storylines, maybe would even make a good Hollywood movie if there was some special effects.

Final Fantasy VIII was a bit... awkard... drawing magic instead of MP. You may think I'm lazy but, you junction magic in FFVIII and if you wanna use magic that's been drawn, there goes your stats.

Final Fantasy X is back to MP, and has voice acting! :) Makes a good drama.

there has already been a movie about final fantasy, it was turd. :)

final fantasy VIII was the worst, the storyline was about some guy and it was romanic:eek:. but VII is good and so is IX and X. XI is to be released on the PC and is online! :D

I liked the Freedom Froce Demo. Anyone have the real game?

http://www.freedomforcecenter.com/

Now i'm still confused on the RPG's. Which one's do you have to pay to play on-line and which are free to play on-line?

AllGamer

The only thing i like about FF8 are its cinematics.

of course, after the Theather movie, that's long past.

FFM is the best :D
as for game wise, i like FF7 best.
or the FFO (Final Fantasy Online)

World Of Warcraft looks real promising. Nice graphics but it has a very sketchy realease date. Also the #1 reason I may not get it: MONTHLY FEES'S. Athought if they do what Everquest did (with pre-paid cards) I may get it. ;) But If its more than $15, I might as well buy a whole new game.

yer, pay for play blows, and i would never pay to play a game online when i have things like DoD and CS to occupy my time :)

AllGamer

The only game i'll pay to play is LINEAGE 2, check above.

by far that's the only game with amazing eye candy, yet MMORPG. Extremely much better than EverQuest and alikes.
