I have been hearing alot of talk about the way Win98 manages memory. Is this true?
"that anything over 128mb of memory installed in a Win98 machine is a waste of money." What I am hearing is that win98 does not detect any amount larger than 128mb or it just simply does not put to use any amount over this size.

this is a very old myth about what is a hardware problem, not a software one. The limitation was one present in certain pentium-class chipsets, notably the Intel VX line of motherboards. The VX chipset could not cache any RAM over 128MB. Any RAM over this amount would be uncached but stll be faster than resorting to Virtual Memory.

Anything Pentium II class, later or the AMD equivelant computer should have no problem caching a lot more.
