Hp makes most of there money off Printer ink. They make very little off the ink. They figure once you buy a printer you got it, but you need ink. I used to work for them so I know that's how they work. They have us in a barrel.
:(

I'd be cautious about refilling the cartridges. Theres a chance you could damage the cartridge itself causing it to leak all over the cartridge stall and inside the printer itself. I've not done this myself, only what I've heard. Just food for thought,if you call tech support (again speaking for HP) and they find out you've used a refillable cart or refilled a non refillable cart(they'll ask, trust me) than all they will tell you is to buy a new cartridge...It's a viscous(sic) circle! :(

That, I don't know. They kept that a secret from us..LOL. I'm guessing they make it themselves somewhere.

i have been refilling my hp 870 cse for 2 years with no adverse effects printing about 20 pages a day but the large cartridges last quite a while--have got the ink from re-inks.com at about $12 for 8oz

I've had alot of success with refills too. Just make sure to refill it before the sponge in the bottem dries or its a b#$%h to get working again. At that point you have to soak the printer head in hot water to get it working again. I always let it sit over night in the printing position before useing so to allow it to soak into the sponge. Also be patient it takes a little time to refill them as you cant just squeeze the amount needed in one shot. Youll see what I mean when you do it. But its more than worth it seeing how the ink isnt that expensive.:)

I get reconditioned ones from Touchstone (http://www.printcartridge.net/) - they at least £10 cheaper than new & less messy than refilling yourself - I make a mess adding toner to a photocopier so I daren't try refilling ink cartridges  But for the brave they do reill kits as well :)

I have been fillling my own cartridges for years. Its not a big deal. (However, when you do it, spread a big section of newspaper as your work surface in case you over-fill!) You can usually get 3 to 4 times use out of each cartridge. I needed to do this because in my business I needed ink that was waterproof or nearly so. If you need good inks and empty cartridges, go to specialtyinks.com.

For everyday stuff, I buy generic on ebay. Have had really good quality for epson cartridges from digiorbit.net as the seller.
