Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Oops. XP Logon now requires password. Want to go back, but how?

I may have caused this by monkeying around with tweaks, and now am stuck.

My goal is to have the stock logon without any Win 2000 like box, where I must punch "OK" while a cursor flashes for a password.

Can you tell me the trick to going back?

Pro or Home? You can always use Tweak UI for XP:

Set logon under Logon > Autologon

Pro.

Thanks for the tip, I'm off to give it a whirl. You are really helping me out, as it was driving me nuts.

I don't know where they hide this, but you can type control userpasswords2 in a Run box and pull up the old Win2K-style logon manager. ;)

Now I have the win 2000 style log on/off, and with the tweakUI fix
I don't have to hit "OK" to log on. It's much better.

Still, I dare to hope to go back to the XP style log on/off that was default when I installed. You can select restart or shutdown without a dropdown menu, as they are side by side. I always liked that.

Thanks,

In Control Panel > Users and Passwords, change the way you log on. Choose Interactive Logon. Beware - this may negate Tweak UI!

Well, that seems to be the trick. I just learned a lot, thanks for pointing the way through the thicket.

I like XP, but sometimes I get sentimental about old ME. At least I felt somewhat at home.

Thanks again,
