I am on a computer built by my school. We have admin priviledges on it, but they locked the desktop or something. I have no desktop icons or right click capability. I'm not sure what to change in admin options. I can't see that anything has been disabled.
The computer is brand new, so it's not a software glitch or conflict w/ another program. It's simply been locked out.
Can anyone help me get this back on?
Thanks

Does the start menu etc appear? , if its just a blank desptop with nothing at all, can you access task manager by pressing CTRL, ALT, DEL??
If so look out for my thread "sisters gone and broken it:@:@" in tech support, i had a similar problem with her computer - in the end i reinstalled 2k although there is probably another solution to this problem... you havent dloaded anything have you as my first suspicion when i encountered this was a virus etc...

This is not a virus or any type of win 2k problem.. i have full access to everything (start menu, ctl alt del), the desktop has just been locked out. I know there's some type of admin priviledge that can enable or disable this setting. I can't seem to figure it out.
I don't really need to boot to safe mode cuz i'm an administrator on this comptuer. I just want my desktop.
The computer was just built yesterday by the school techs. They always lock the desktops so people can't save things to it. How do i undo it?

Hmmn, i know what you mean about school techs and admin rights :(
School i used to go to we couldnt even access task manager on student access, now i work there, and all theyve done is upgraded my student access so i have access to 3 extra drives... meanwhile i cant do jack ***** for myself in the event of a crash etc due to the restrictions i still have in place from student acess :(...
Still - at least i worked out their admin password today...:r:r
...heres my suggestion, i have admin rigfhts at home, but im pretty lax and only have limited acess (no changes to C:\winnt) on my sisters account. But try going into start > administrative tools and having a poke about, check your under the admin user group etc...
(to enable admin tools in start, right click on toolbar, properties, view admin tools in start menu, okay :))
--anyone else got any suggestions??

Did you check for group policies or local policies? I had to lock down some systems before and you can wipe out just about everything with policies.
Here's a pic from the system I had to lock down:

yeah i've been checking the policies..i just don't have time to go through them all and see where he made the change. I tried to make a change to something and it stated i didn't have rights to modify it. This means that he took off all the groups and has only his user name listed for these type of admin priviledges. Instead of pissing him off i guess maybe i will just ask him to change it back.

yeah. it's always a good idea to keep your system admin happy. :)
