I know what to do!!
Return your new GeForce and get the money to buy a new decent computer
:p
ok that was a bad joke.

Ok, after all that chat with the Tech guys in HP, did they help you dissable your on Board video, in that sorry excuse for computer??

Lets say it's dissable

then what are the Symptoms you get after you turn on the computer with your New GeForce??

any sound, black screen, anything?
even nothing, is a sign.

describes us what happends, after your press the pOWER button, with the new Vid Card in the box with the on board dissabled

when i start up windows it will lock up or my computer thinks that i am trying to have 2 moniters hooked up at the same time....

Good, that's something to start with.

There' is actually no problem with the idea of trying to use both video cards.

i've done that before. I'd say i was forced to do it due the very same reason you are going through right now.

Ok so to make the new card be the Primary first you need to be able to install it.

if you can't get in to windows with the NEW one, then go and Re-Enable the Old one

With the New one still in the computer.

It should work.

Once you get into windows install the new drivers from nVidia.

reboot, and after you go back into windows...

(catching up my digital bleath...):D

... ok so yeah after you get into windows

then go into Device manager, and if your drivers allows you

Change your Ge Force to be the Primary card, and your on board the 2nd dary card.

once you have done that.

reboot, (yet again...i can make prenty of nasty remakrs about windows here)

ok so during reboot
unhook your monitor from the Onboard video
then hook it to your new Ge Force

now you should be in windows working fine.

Now you have 2 choices
keep the settings as is, letting Win98se think that you have dual video

or

you can now dissable the on board, in the device manager

then reboot (yet again...)

and during reboot go into the BIOS, and Dissable your onboard also.

now after you go back to windows
you should only have 1 video.

ufffhhh.....

man what a work...

lets see if these steps works for you, cuz those are the very same steps i took for a machine i fixed on a customer site.

and yes they were also using Win98se, with a very bad onboard everything mobo. where you dissabled the onboard video, but it keeps comming back. even if it is set to off.
I'd say the off option just doesn't work at all.

Excellent.

so during Safe mode
Dissable the old onboard video, and see if that helps

Ok, now that's bad, then we are still dealing with an IRQ conflict here.

well, we'll have to find a way to really dissable the other chipset then; there ain't much you can do for windoze, to not lock up

you'll have to contact HP again, to see if a BIOS upgrade can fix that.

So you can finally turn off your OnBoard video

I am going to say this.
I work for HP, but I am not one of their novice techs, I have been doing this for 9.5 years.

On the models with the i810 video, such as what your 510c has, people have been running troubles into running the GeForce4 video cards.

Most video card manufacturers recommend that you have at least a 250w to 300w power supply to run the GeForce4 line of cards. Most HP's don't come with anything higher then a 185w model.

This has been the reason for the lockups on the computer when using these cards, some people though have had luck using them, so it could be a conflict with the i810 controller.

You can change the PCI/AGP preferences in the BIOS, and that should allow it to work, but there are no advanced settings, such as setting an IRQ for the video card.
