Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : recording movies onto comp
he ive got ati all in wonder and whenever i try to record a movie to my hdd from a vcr it gets no sound. im doing this so i can create cd backups of the movie, and its perfectly legal cause u can legally create backups of anything u want, u just cant give it to anyone else. so ill proly need a dvd-ram, but anyways, does anyone else have this same problem cause i checked out all of the connections and settings and it all seems fine, the only thing i can think of is ati recognizing a block on the movie. any insite would be greatly appreciated

Edited to delete remarks that showed my total ignorance of the technical issues at hand and to thank jak for asking this question because, as a result, I've learned something that might be of great benefit to me.

Not quite on the topic-but how about recording from my ANALOGUE Sony Hi8 NTSC Vid Camera onto the comp hard drive.
Software I need (prefer free-poor) and connections and anything else?
Any guides on the net?
Sorry to intrude-but always someone here who knows.
Thanks
Regards
Matt

Actually thats not true daverme. You can fit 74 or 80 mins of video and sound on a cd and play it in a DVD drive either computer or home video. You just have to convert your video to a VCD format and then burn that to a cd using adaptec or something and then its playable in a dvd drive. And its 74 or 80 mins of sounds AND video

hey buddy why dont u go and search for dvd-ram drives that hold , what is it, 5(1sided-9(double sided)gigs a piece and there what 500bucks, yeah thats what i thought
go to www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) and search for yourself. http://store.yahoo.com/alienoutpost/tos97gigided.html pricewatch.com
this sight offers a dvd-ram for 400 some dollars
before u try to help others, help urself and learn something first.

Matt, I use a miroVIDEO DC30+ (Pinnacle Systems) but a lot has changed since I got that card in 1998 (only two years but seems like eons ago!). One place you might look is www.videoguys.com; (http://www.videoguys.com;) they specialize in DTV. Dave

www.vcdhelp.com (http://www.vcdhelp.com) is the best site i've found for all your video needs, weather it be capture, conversion, compression, editing, or recording. Very useful.
