A couple weeks ago I got connected with DSL. Since then I have not been able to access my banks or credit card company online. All I get is that it's unable to open. With my dialup modem I used to see that I was on a secured (ssl) link. I don't see that now. Is there something I've missed in configuring my DSL connection ? Why would a webpage care about the method of connection ?I know that this has happened to others. Any help is appreciated.

PPPOE connection is the first option i'll check, on your DSL dial up software
or if you use Router, then make sure your router is using that. if you do have a router you can enable DMZ, to test.
then see if your ISP allows HTTPS connections, also ask them to see if they are Filtering anything.

Did you install a browser from your isp? If you did, it could be that your encription level is too low to get to your banks web site. You have to have 128 bit encription or they won't allow you on. Go to the help button, then about your browser to see what level you have. That would be why you don't see the https:

I'm using IE 5.5. It came with my win98se disk. When I used the dialup modem and connected , I saw that I had an SSL 128 bit encryption connection. I see nothing like that when I try to connect with DSL.

Once logged in to your DSL service, what happens if you just go to your bank using plain old IE5.5... NOT the ISP's custom browser?

Thanks for your suggestion Jmichna. I am using the same browser that I used with my diap up modem. It worked fine and had SSL 128 bit encryption. I don't usnderstand what difference DSL makes

Try what Allgamer said and just enter the info supplied by your isp.
