have an 8 gig HD 4 sections, want to back up, have a zip drive, according to my math it would take 10 disks to copy 1 gig.??
my c drive has 1.30 gig on it, also how can I move stuff fron the C to other sections of the drive. they dont have much on them.??

Yep, your right - 10 100MB Zips to backup a Gig
To move stuff, I guess you can just go into My computer and move stuff like you would move files from C: to D:, Copy and paste, or drag and drop...not sure what your askin there.
It would probably be cheaper to buy a cheap CD-RW and back up data on CD-R's than to back up on Zips. If your in need of rewritable magnetic storage, check out Castlewood ORB drives. Its similar to a Zip drive, only its 2.2GB a disk, and 20 bucks a disk. You would still need to buy the ORB drive though. ZIP is more for removable storage, such as transferring some files from one comp to another, or backing up a small amount of critical files (Documents, etc). For full backups, Zip drives arent really the answer. It would be much cheaper to buy another harddrive than to buy zip disks for backup (per MB).

I have a 10 gig extra hard disk that I use for a backup. It's only worth $80. I just power off the PC & put it in as a slave. It can copy MUCH faster than a zip drive & holds 100 times more data. Then I give the disk to my neighbor for off-site safe storage.

Why do you need to backup everything on your hard drive? Shouldn't you just backup your own files (documents, favorites, etc.)?

The CD-RW will come with software.
With CD-RW cds themselves, you just drag and drop (like a floppy disk). With CD-Rs you have to use software, typically Adaptec.
I have always been against magnetic media. I knew they would disappear at somepoint. CDs are MUCH cheaper and hold more. Even Iomega knows that. They are out of magnetic media to my knowledge (not making any knew Zip drives). They now have the "ZipCD".
Do you have that many files you need to backup? I have two hds and a burner. I simply copy to files to the other hd for backup and use CD-RWs for stuff I want to use on other comps.

This may be obvious, but be careful moving program files from one drive to another because registry entries may no longer be valid and they will no longer function. There is software specifically designed to enable you to do this. As i remember, Cleansweep is one of them, but there are several. These software programs can move an existing program to a new drive, and search and amend all references.
