right of the bat ... i am semi-new to this stuff. Semi-new in, i've gone through the "guess and check" stage and am ready for
some real info :)

P4 2GHz ( Pentium 4 Processor 2AGHz? )
Abit TH7II Board
768 RDRAM ( 2x128 2x256 )
Radeon 8500LE Graphic card

I'm sure half that wasn't necessary, but i really don't know what should be known when setting this up.

When i first started my computer it said something close to "CPU is ___( forgot what went here, sounded like it was set up wrong )__ or has been changed. Check softmenu III".

When i went in to check on it, the bios showed:
CPU Operationg Speed 800(100)
External Clock(CPU/PCI) 100MHz/33.33MHz
Multiplier Factor x8
AGPCLK/CPUCLK 2/3(66.66MHz)
Speed Error Hold Disabled

I checked the motherboard manual, gave me an equasion to find out what the Operating Speed was ... it said:
"CPU Speed = External Clock x Multiplier Factor"
So, i figured the numbers plugged in as:
100 x 8 = 800MHz, wich it said on the first line anyways.

When i tried changing it to 2000(100) and saved changes and restarted, the computer had a beepfest. I reset the CMOS Memory and restarted.

I took it down to 1700(100) and it began beeping again, so I started over.

I restarted quite a few times, i believe it's running at 1400(133)
right now, but i'm a little frustrated at the moment to go back and check since I'm halfway done with the post.

I'm basically trying to get it to 2GHz, what the chip is. I'm not worried about overclocking at all right now, I just want it to work so I set it to a setting wich I am sure it won't screw up.

Anyone have some advice? :>)-|

I know that the FSB needs to be 133. I further know that the mutiplier on Intel CPUs is locked up tight. All that I can think of is that you got a bogus CPU or a problem with it or the board.

I think you'll find that resetting the CMOS will solve your problem. First make sure your jumpers on the Abit mobo are set correctly.

Pentium chips are multiplier locked at the factory. Unlike AMD processors, they can not be changed by simple modifications. Your BIOS setting should read AUTO.

Hope this helps. Good luck and let us know what happens.

If the Auto setting doens't work then set it to 100*20, which is what Auto should be setting it to.

You have a 2.0A cpu. the "B" cpus are the 133mhz ones.
