Hi ALL,

I just want to write a CPU diagnostic program.
1. What are the tests has to be implemented for minimal diagnostic?

2. Is there any chance of particular hardware part getting failed?
( Like Adder, Floating point unit, Branch Prediction Logic)

3. How to test the differnt execution units of a Superscalar processor
like Pentium?

4. Is it necessary to test all the x86 instructions supported by
the processor?

Thanks In Advance

Best allround system and CPU tester ive found is Si soft sandra: aint got a link at the mo, just put "download sisoft sandra" into google and see what happend.

Another app for identigying cpu's would by H. Oda's CPUID, very good and small proggy :D

Thanx guys... But, I basically expect few tips to develop my own CPU utility. So I want the reliable answers for my previous questions/doubts.

Thanks again:cool:

Ok, what do you have so far?

1. If you knew the answer, no postey.
2. Absolutely, why this is hard, not easy. CPU, imho, useless without mobo chipset, lotsa variables.
3. Do ya wanna test CPU or subsystems?
4. Yes, you want to test CPUs...

you know what will be the ultimate CPU Diagnostic promgra to make?
one that can tell you how much head room you have for OVER CLOCKING, with the installed CPU, and that can also tell you the best voltage, FSB, clock, etc.
or at least something that can detect what is limitting its full potentials

:D;)

I guess it depends on how hard you want to look.

Here is my first observation on Sandra, latest version:

Don’t believe everything you hear from Sandra.

I just reinstalled Sandra 2002 on a new system. ( PCChips M830LR , 512 mb ram, AMD XP 1800+ CPU, ATI Radeon 700 VE video card. I ran just the ran the Mainboard Imformation sub routine and noticed the following errors.

Maximum installable memory …512MB… wrong …, board will take up to 1 gb.
Maximum module size…128MB…wrong… can use up to 512MB ram
Supported Memory Voltages…wrong…also supports 2.5V DDR ram
And finally this:
SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate…Thank You Very Much, Sandra.

I don’t think I will waste much more time on the rest of the specs. Anyone know a good alternative to Sandra? :(
