Running a Thunderbird 1 gig system
with windows 98se

I had 256 megs of Ram (pc133) and today bought another 256 (133) and had something funny happen.

When i boot up, the bios recognizes 512 megs installed. But in Windows , it only shows 511 megs!!!!!!
i even checked with Sysoft Sandra, and it gave me 511 megs as well.

Any ideas?? there are no shared memory shared components on my computer.

thanx

Check in the bios settings for the 1meg slot between 15 and 16 meg enabled. This will report 1meg missiing in winders.

All the best, Justy.

I believe this is a Windows 9x limitation. I have a similar system and I get 511MB in Win98 but it shows the correct amount in Linux. If this was caused by a BIOS setting I would think it should be the same amount of memory available to Linux as well as Windows.

I think I would tolerate a 0.1953% memory loss. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

BTW ~ There's "a rat" in "separate". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
