How 2 recover start menu programs?

So many questions - so lil time.
Sorry for the hassle all.

With the newly installed Xp on the drive i have noticed that none of the programs showing in c:\windows\program files .* are listed in the start: all programs list, in the start menu any more. Not to mention i have no desktop icons for any of my programs anymore. Is there a quick fix to rectify this.

I did try the file transfer wizard, but it didnt copy the start menu program file list over.

go to whatever you want.. right click.. then click add to desktop or add to start menu

You reinstalled the OS, raverboy. You need to now reinstall all programs so that they can be "registered" with Windows.

What a mjour hassle it is to reinstall every single program. Some of them i no longer have on disk. (hopefully i'll have the zip files somewhere on drive)
