Norton's just gave us these alerts.

C:\\WINDOWS\dialer123.exe is infected with the W32.FunLove.4099 virus access to the file was denied.

and

C:\\WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP\wnmngm1.exe is infected with the W32.FunLove.4099 virus access to the file was denied.

Now what do I do??? My husband thinks that if we go offline now, we won't be able to get back on. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?

I have no idea how we got this thing, we scan EVERYTHING and we don't open email from strangers. I've been on the internet for three years and have never had a virus get past email,, ugh!!! this sucks!!!!

Do a full scan with Norton. You should always mention your Windows version right off. Which is it?

Nothing to worry about

it's a fairly common virus, that does only e-mail SPAM.

so it actually will let you go online, so it can send out all those millions of emails it has prepared to spam people in your contact list.

I"m running windows98

and I won't be sending out any spam,,,, my contact list is absolutely empty, I keep it empty for this very reason.

With Windows 98, pop in the Win98 CD and run the installation. You won't lose anything and your system files will be replaced.

You'll have to visit Windows Update about 500 times afterward though. :(

Nothing to worry about Allgamer? Did you read that Symantec page?

Payload:
Modifies files: Win32 files with .exe, .scr, or .ocx extensions.
Degrades performance: Corrupts Windows Applications.
Causes system instability: Causes degradation in system performance and sometimes crash.

I've seen this nasty virus several times and in all but one case the user had to format and reinstall windows to fix the damage caused by funlove.

But perhaps it didn't execute. If that's the case then yeah it's nothing to worry about so delete the infected files if Norton didn't already do that. Look in the System folder for flcss.exe. If it's there it executed.
