I was downloading some things today and I accidentally unchecked the box that says "Always ask before downloading..." ( I cant remember exactly what it says) on the dialoge box prompt and now whenever I download something it just does it without asking me where to save it and I have no idea where its going! Could someone tell me where I can change it to make it prompt me again, I cant seem to find it anywhere. :(
Thanks if someone can help :)
By the way, im using IE 6.

if you right click on a download instead of left clicking and choose 'save target as' you can choose where to save the download to, you can also change the name of the file to make it easier to recognise 6 months down the line.
hope this helps, i'm not sure if it will return everything to the 'asking you where you want it saved' when you left click in the future, but it should at least give you the option of deciding where they go by right clicking. i'm pretty sure that every download will go to the same place after you choose it.

Not sure how this can be reverse but you could always check the option
to be notify when you finish d/lding... (you'll find it in Internet Options)
That will make it possible to open the folder where it was saved.

Thanks for the help. I forgot about the SaveTarget As option, but that still dont help with flash sites.
Dam it this sucks. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE6 but it keeps all the settings so it still happens. If there is an easy way to turn something off like this, then there should be just as easy way to turn it back on. I have posted on 3 different tech forums and no one knows how to reverse it. I have even tried posting on Microsofts newsgroups but still nothing. Hell I cant even find an email link through Microsofts maze of links to send a request for help. Every link I go to I either have to pay for support or they go off on another support topic.

Symptoms
When you download a file from the Internet, you may not be prompted for the location in which to save the file that you are downloading. Instead, the file may be opened.
Cause
This behavior can occur if you clear the Always ask before opening this type of file check box when you download a file. If you do this, files of this type are automatically placed in the Temporary Internet Files folder and opened by the program that is associated with the file type.
Resolution
If you want to be prompted for a download location for the file type, follow these steps:
Double-click My Computer.
On the View menu, click Folder Options.
On the File Types tab, click the appropriate file type in the Registered File Types box.
Click Edit.
Click to select the Confirm Open After Download check box.
Click OK, and then click OK.
