I was swapping out the PSU from my old comp to use in my other comp (which died yesterday, and is still dead). So i unplug all the power cables to drives/mobo, take out PSU..
When i put it back, i connected everything again, but now when i turn on the power, the PSU fan and case fan whir for ~1sec then stop..WHAT HAVE I DONE?! 2 days..2 dead comps.

I would assume that some motherboard fault in the recipient PC is causing the PSU to shut down. Take it out of the case and try it - it (the motherboard) may be grounded. Clean out any dust!

I can't seem to get the case fan out to remove the mobo - the fan just wont budge. This is a Dell btw, and it's bloody cramped inside.

i put it on some cardboard, plugged in the power to mobo, and nothing happened when i turned it on. At least in the case the PSU fan whirs for ~1sec.

The motherboard has the power to shut down the PSU if the CPU is fried. Is this an AMD?

no, PII 300

Then I would assume that the motherboard is a goner. :(

"in your case you blew up the "new" ps, and when you put it back in the old pc"

but i never actually used the psu in the other pc, i just put in straight back in (its 200W, too low for other one). So i can't see how i could have blown it.
