Have an AMD 2200+ with a ASUS A7V333 motherboard & KT333 chipset. Came preinstalled with XP Pro. Used ParitionMagic to set up Win 98SE partion and use Bootmagic to select between. I installed Win 98SEand then the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. Both OS work however Win 98 installed a generic VGA display adapter that only allows 16 colors and 640x480. When I install the recommended drivers from Leadtek for the WinFast A250 and reboot I either get a blank screen or a Windows Protection Error. When I deinstall the display drivers and go back to generic VGA driver Win 98 works but at the low resolution.
Considering Microsoft may be correct in stating the oldest OS should be installed first I replaced the hard drive with a spare clean drive and installed only Win 98SE on it, the chipset drivers, USB2 drivers ect. In fact every driver to clear all problems with Hardware listed on the Device Manager tab of System Properities. But when I install the recommended LeadTek drivers for WINME_98 the same problem comes up again. I just want to be able to at least 256 colors and something higher then 640x480.
Long post but hard to explain. Thanks for any help.

You may want to try the latest nVidia drivers from their site. Clean up Device Manager in Safe Mode before you do and change the driver to Standard VGA first. Try this too:

Last night I downloaded the latest drivers from LeadTek and also ran the detonator program and had a clean Device Manager, SAME results as orignal post.
Tonight I was reading posts on another Forum and found out that Win 98 only allows only 512Mb without problems.
I added in System.ini in the [386Enh] section the entry MaxPhysPage=20000 which is 512 Mb.
I have 1Gb RAM installed in the system.
The system now works with either Win 98SE or XP Pro and I was able to install Win 98 after XP was already on the system. I am now able to select up to 32 bit colors and as high a resolution as I need.
Hope this may help anyone else having similar problems.
