Can anyone point me to a good web e-mail program? My main concerns are not getting too much spam ( not much chance of that ) and finding one that doesn't collect or give out too much personnal info about me. Thanks in advance.

One of the most populatr is hotmail, and you can get it anywhere, and lots of spam if you like that kind of stuff, big on viagra i'm told.:p

Thanx Ammok I looked at Hotmail( don't like MS ) and Yahoo ( way too much spam ). I went into Google-Directories and entered "free e-mail" and was surprised at how many there were. I'm just not sure which ones have a minimum of spam and are fairly secure.

Your going to get spam on almost all of them, but the trick is to get one with good filters. I almost never get spam, but thats becuase i have my own ISP emails which I raley use on dodgy or otherwise (like cell phone ringtones etc) web pages.
I agree entirely with you M$ but I am still using XP, so if you can't beat em ...... Or maybe try some of the newbies out and post back later if you find one you like?:)

Ammoks advice is good - i have both hotmail and ISP accounts, most of the time if i am registering something and i do not require confirmation emails etc, i will simply give a made up or false email adress.. any other non important, but temporairily needed stuff gets directed to my hotmail account (which fills up with viagra and porn ads as Ammok stated), and the peopel i actually wish to talk to such as friends, or notificationd from this and other forums, i direct to my ISP account... :)

if you want to get majorly techie about it, set up your own mailserver, then you can control very tightly what kind of stuff you get in your mailbox....:p

Thanks to all of you for the tips. I was thinking of taking the approach that Wallijonn is suggesting but I don't know if I can. I think my isp only offers one account. Any other ideas will be welcomed.
www.hushmail.com
Free email.. hides your IP from showing up in headers..
doesnt allow spamming ( and if one gets through you can report it and theyll block that too )
Doesnt do ANYTHING automatically ie; pictures showing up in your letter.. its stricktly TEXT.. so much less chance of bugs etc from BMPs and JPGs.
Very dependable and its been on line a LONG long time.

Tanks Sus~ I went to the Hushmail web site. I like the security side of it but most of my e-mails go to organizations and companies that probally don't have Hushmail accounts. They may not want to go through the steps of de-encrypting my e-mails. It's an interesting concept, though.
Emaile between two hushmail users is automatically encrypted and decrypted. You dont have to do a thing.
When you send or receive an email to someone who doesnt have a KEY... it just goes through normal. They dont have to do anything to see it and neither do you.
You CAN set up a security key... and thats a very good thing.. but you dont have to.
They're still super picky on SPAM and they still hide your IP from anyone seeing it in a header without any keys being set up. And thats a GOOD thing cause if a hacker gets your current IP thats one way they can pinpoint you until it changes.
So the people you correspond with dont have to do anything special and neither do you. The only diff is.. that for attachments... you have to manually dnld them and then open them. OTHER email accounts auto open & view and I have found that these bmps and jpg etc can have macros and bugs in them.
But in Hushmail...just viewing ANY email is extremely safe.

Thanks again. I'll try sending an e-mail from home to my work to check it out. I will also check the web site again. It said something in the "about Hushmail" that sending someone e-mail that wasn't signed up for Hushmail would require downloading the entire message to a specific web site foe de-encrypting but I may have misunderstood what they meant.
Thats only if you send it encrypted and they cant decrypt it.. THEN they have to go to a special website.
But you can send it normal.. and still get great spam filtering and your IP address doesnt show up anywhere in the header.*s*
