Your "registry" is located in two separate files. Just get sytem.dat, and user.dat saved somewhere. Those are your registry.
BTW, they can be edited using notepad, or even DOS.

well, I've been having a lot of trouble backing up my entire system. I don't know why, I always get 2 error msgs. about 1/2 way through. All I really want to do is back up my registry because I'm gonna mess around with some settings for dial-up networking. Unfortunately, my ignorance shines through, and I can't figure out how to back it up. I would really appreciate any help.

Look for a reg backup utility on your W9x CD-ROM called "ERU"...
