For anyone that uses Kazaa... do a serch in your windows directory for slave.exe it is part of a program called remote anything and it lets someone take complete control of system....if you happen to find it, the uninstaller is here http://www.remote-anything.com/en/downloads.htm It seems somone has been hiding it in files.....

Cool I was clean! I got hacked through kazaa but it was diferently. But we resolved that here a little ago-still kazaa is dangerous if your not ready it will bite ya. I know first hand. So ANYONE with kazaa, all important data should be either encrypted, removed onto a media like cd or zip or another HDD thats protected before using kazaa. Even check your cookies and emails for info that they might want like credit card #'s or paypal acount inf. etc..... They can go through your whole HDD if your are unaware of the flaws in kazaa! It hapened to me:eek: :( :t

I use Direct Connect for all my file sharing . If you have to use KaZaa be sure to get KaZaa Lite. (http://free.hostdepartment.com/kazaalitetk/). It is free of spyware.

i have kazaa running on this system and havent yet had any problems with itl But as you say i dont keep anything important on this computer. Any transactions etc over the net i do it on another pc just to be sure

p.s. how would you go about uninstalling kazaa anyway apart from a full format. i take it that just going to add remove programs wont get rid of all the hackers

I use kazzalite for all my domestic soft furnishing needs and mp3s. Much safer as muchmark says.

Is DC anygood muchmark, worth a try?

Unistalling it should remove everything unless you got the reg. kazaa then run adaware after uninstall to remove the spyware in it.:t

tricktx- First off, go to the add/remove tab get rid of it. Then go to the Kazaa folder get rid of everything(except your downloaded stuff) then get Adaware or Spybot(way way better imo finds way more than Adaware.

I got Spybot free on a disk with a magazine. So I dont really
know were to pick that up.

Make sure to get rid of all the spyware not only kazaa's. Also hit alt+ctrl+del and make sure no brillant Digital **** is running( spyware in kazaa that uses your spare computing power.) Adaware should get rid of it . If it doesnt track it to is folder and delete it.

edit- Me an P4 posted at the same time sorry P4, do what we both said you wil be set.

Just given DC a bit of a try Ammok -- its okay - although a little complex, i wouldnt go around reccomending it to your newbie friends if i were you...

However apart from that -- looks okay :)

Indeed there is - only thing i dont like is the ridiculously large minimum share limits installed by some servers though -- i mean im all for sharing -- but i aint sharing 5gb of MY PERSONAL ***** with you or anyn else man -- i dont mind sharing my mp3's and movies -- but thats never gonna add up to 5gb when ive only got 30gb to start with...

LOL, I'm sharing 16gb already i got with Kazza!!!! I aim to get a lot more, but I can see my burner getting hot.:) Can only do this passive thingy at the mo, but when I work out what I'm doing I might get better results........

If you have plenty of stuff to share then I would reccommend Direct Connect, but if you don't have much to share you won't get much back, it's very much a 2 way street, and it's not very user friendly for newbies.

If you want to build up lots of files fast then nothing can beat kazaa, but you need to know what you're looking for to avoid getting fake files. - if in doubt, ask the users you're getting it from.

so to re-cap, download as much useful stuff as you can, using kazaa and and once you have 5-10 gb move on to DC to get the best stuff, but above all, make sure you share your own stuff, don't be greedy.

I've been using Kazaa Lite for around six weeks now and when I installed it I ran adaware and was clean, I have run Adaware a few times since and always returned an Ad free PC. Until today that is, Kazaa has downloaded and installed a cydoor reference to the program, I uninstalled it and my Kazaa Lite refused to start, Demanding I put the offending spyware back. feeling threatened (not), I removed Kazza altogether, and will try re-installing it again when I feel the need. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

This is why you read the read me to Kazaa lite. It is a dummy cydor, just to trick Kazaa so it will work. IT DOES NOTHING. It does nothing. It is just a dummy cydor file and does nothing. :t

Also spybot has no about tab, just do a search for it on Google.

It doesn't have the lame, non-sharing user base of kaazaa, has no spyware, and no security holes i can spot.

You have to be patient with it because files go slow until you move up other ppl's download queues and start downloading. Once that happens you can often get 100+ kbps downloads on popular files.

has thousands of quality files - each one has it's own html description. :t

Why has the file taken 6 weeks to show itself if it was there all of the time? :confused: ?, unless my AdAware .ref file was out of date!!

I know i'm a little late, but I wanted to say I got somethin called "kernal.exe" hidden in some file off kazaa. After about 20 min of running my box, It was using about 200mb of my ram. Thankfully I'm at least clean of that slave.exe ****. Kinda like a new age "back orifice".

This post has gone over acceptable lines with mention of those 2 sites that lead to warez links and piracy.

Please do not mention these sites again all they do is promote piracy and is not allowed at this site. Please keep this in mind in the future.
