Win 2K on Amd Athlon

Hi,
I am trying to install Win 2K on an AMD Athlon box. The motherboard is pcchips and the chipset is Via KT 133. The setup crashes consistently. Any ideas?

You could have a hardware incompatibility or be in need of a BIOS upgrade. Something as simple as an incompatible modem will prevent setup from finishing and freeze your computer. If you can not find a listing for your particular hardware, try removing all unnecessary hardware, such as USB cards, NICs, modem cards, etc and see if you can successfully install. Then reinstall each device to determine which is not compatible. If you determine which device is incompatible, and the MS site did not have a driver update, go to the manufacturer's site for a possible upgrade. For some devices, like US Robotics Internet Modem, you simply can not use them with Win 2000. Same with some Linksys NICs.

Sorry to rain on you parade, but PCCHIPS m/boards are notoriously troublesome. Basically they're ****. Made from "el-cheapo" components. Built "down" to a price.

I know several people who've tried to save a few bucks by buying one of these boards, only to regret it later on, when the problems start.
