Windows 98 on its way out?

Do you guys think that Windows 98 will fade out soon? I mean by that, will games stop being compatible, will software stop being compatible, etc. You see, I am still on it. lol

I dont see it fading out quite yet.

1.) XP must get more compatible and easier for folks to understand (all of which just takes time)

2.) The ClawHammer and Itanium might help do away with '98, but they are both still in developement.

3.) Most people are still using '98 cuase they don't want to pay for XP, then have to pay for all new toys to replace all the old toys cause they don't work in XP.

it does everythin.

Also people with old slow sys (like me) cant run Xp all that well cause it really slow down their com

Iam happy with 98se and will stick with until I get a better com or I cant use it no more..

It will last a while longer due to the volume of slower PC's that would fall over or be nigh on unuseable with the newer meatier OS's (xp, 2k etc).

However for those of us on more powerful PC's, the only real use for 98 is backwards compatibility with older games and apps, evn though personally i have yet to have a compatibility problem with 2k...

In one of my PC's I still use Windows 95 with Office 2000... 95 'cause its a Pentium 1 but want the comfort of Office 2000. From these you can do it also in 98/98SE using Office XP, and use it in the next 7 years.:D

Believe it or not, they still sell Win98SE Full Version!!! I just saw it at CompUSA the other day. If they still sell it, then I suspect they'll have to support it for at least a few more years. :)

huh, GTA3 plays fine on XP for me.


After using windows XP I would never in my life go back to windows 98. Just the thought of multiple crashes and all that blue screen junk, poor memory managment turns me right off. Well windows 95 is basically no longer around, not sold, doesnt have support from Micsrosoft right? That was only what 7-8 years old. So I think if 98 follows the patter it will be gone in about 1-3 years.

Gib' right on thsi one - GTA3 runs okies on my mates XP machine, and yes again, if you have the power to run 2k/xp well enough on any machine - you will never even look back at 9x...

My friend had to help his other friend downgrade to win 98 becuase gta3 wouldn't run on xp for him. Maybe it works for others.... I don't see why it wouldn't work for him though.

Also, I would upgrade to win 2k, but I don't have the money. I don't see a reason to upgrade either, my games and everything else I trun still works fine on this machine.

MS has extended support for 98 another year plus it is also still selling quite well.
