I was wondering if anybody has any ideas why my Athlon 1.4 (AYHJA) won't boot at 133 FSB?
I had a 850 Duron running at 100 FSB with PC 100 memory, and every thing was ok.
changed PC 100 for PC 133 still all ok ( 100 FSB, 133 Memory)
I could push it to 113 FSB 153 Memory and it would work all day no problems ( just loud fans).
two weeks ago i found a Tbird 1.4 AYHJA at a local computer fair and at about half price (mabye this is to good to be ture)
when i put this on my mobo GA-7ZMM (via KM133 chipset) and try to boot at 133 FSB the PC fails POST (it boots ok at 100 FSB and it can run at 113FSB just like the Duron)
to be fair the manual only says 1Ghz+ and the Gigabyte web site has no information on this now discontuned board.
any ideas???
does your mobo manual tell you the upper limit for the KM133 chipset?
any help or ideas would be most welcome.....Thank you in advance.

I used an early TBird 1.2/200 (100mHz fsb) with my old Asus A7V133 mobo. The cpu was unlocked, and I was able to get it to run at 1.4gHz at 133 fsb and 1.85vcore (1.75 was stock voltage). FSB, voltage and multipliers were set using Asus' "softBIOS."
When the weather got warm, this system would get unstable, and very often would boot to 100mHz fsb (1.05gHz)... and I'd have to go into BIOS and reset everything... most of the time worked okay until the next boot.
Got to be a real pain, so rather than use a "soft menu" I decided to set the fsb, multplier and vcore using jumpers (the Asus board allowed control both ways, jumpers and softmenu).
Once I set things via hardware, I never had the problem of being unable to boot to 133 fsb.
Maybe you could try something similar with your system.

The problem is the mobo / chipset does not support 266mhz FSB cpu's, such as the Tbird 1.4 AYHJA. Your mobo's chipset and bios only support the 200mhz variety. Now if you had the KM133A you could.

Thanks for the info I was worried that someone would say that but then it is a good excuse to upgrade the mobo.

When you do upgrade the mobo, dont pass up the choice for DDR. The cpu really flies with DDR. :D
Added: The cpu does runs hot so get a really big heatsink/fan combo for it that the mobo can take. Trust me I got one, I know.

um.......... I found something a bit strange i ran wcpuid and looked at the chipset info page (attached).
I know that the mobo is a gigabyte ga7zmm and the manual says the chipset is
"Pro Savage KM133, consisting of VT8365 Memory/AGP/PCI Controller
VT82c686b PCI Super-I/O Controller
ICS 9248BF- 141 100/102/104/106/108/110/112/133 Mhz system bus speeds"
have a look at the wcpuid info and it clearly states that the chipset is KT133A
is this a known fault with wcpuid or what?????
with the KT133A I would be able to boot at 133fsb would i not??
any ideas fokes?

DDR oh yes if im spending money i like to make it worth while:)
Rocketmech what mobo do you use or which would you buy if you needed a new mobo?
im thinking of waiting for DDR400 but im not sure the premium we pay for the very latest is going to be worth it.
oh and on the cooling side.... my cpu temp only rasies 4 C from idie to QuakeIII :D (100x10.5 (no multiplier ajustment on this board))
