Radeon 8500 compatibilty [Archive]

My son brought to my attention yesterday that there was a 9700 version of the radeon but its not in the store's in most of Canada yet. So im thinking, should I get the 8500 or buy the other part's of the computer and wait for the $650 video card to come out? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Dont worry it's not going to cost that much when it really hits the stores

back when i got the All In Wonder RADEON 8500 DV, it was suppose to be $600 CDN, when i actually got it, at the Retail store, boxes, games, wires, etc, oh Yeah and FREE Remote Wonder plus included. for only $350+darn taxes CDN

those are Toronto prices.

Actually the Radeon 9700 is pre-ording for about $399.00 right now.

I dont know the money conversion to canadian off my head you will ave to figure that out. lol :) :t

Quite a nice system.

Not the best video card though. I would of got a Geforce 4 Ti brand but that system should be quite fast for all the latest games.

what do ya mean quite a nice system. name one thats better (apart from the 9000 series). The 8500 in my view is just as good as the TI series of the GF4. OK it wont beat the Gf4 in stardard settings but with 4XAA enabled it still retains an excerlant FPS and the visual quality is abserlutly AMAZING

Dont worry Gpo the 8500 is fantastic graphics card, and it wont have to be replaced for years

I agree.
The ATI RAdeon 8500 is a very nice card.
Its the best bang for $$ right now.

The ATi 8500 128mb is even better than the 9000/9000 pro series in all most all games

exactely the same sheeeet with GeForce 4 mx series

so either a ATI 8500 or 9700
or GeForce 3 ti 500 or GeForce 4 Ti 600

but nothing in between.

I agree with you with the ATI cards.

BUt with nvidia.
THe gf4 ti 4200, Gf4 ti4400 are better than the GF3 ti 500!
ALL the Gf4ti series are better than the Gf3 ti 500.

AllGamer, Why nothing in between? The Geforce 4 ti 4200 and geforce 4 ti 44000 are much better than any Geforce 3 ti 500. Plus you can overclock them a lot more than a geforce 3 ti 500.

This is how i see it.

if you can affort a GeForce 4 ti 200, you might as well paid that little extra and get the 600.

why be somewhere in between when you can go all the way?

if it's again the big time argument about how nVidia like to pick pocket at those people in between, then of course nVidia wins.

cuz that's exactely what they are doing, they are brainwashing people to but anything.

they are not teaching people the concept of buy smartly.

a good buyer, will buy what they can affort. or not buy at all. and if you buy go for the best.

yet nvidia is making all this subttle differences, to just take the money from anyone at every entry level without a coincience.

some people have to save a very very long time to be able to buy something like that.

but nooooo, they don't care, they just want whatever money they have at hand, by selling them a CRIPPED version of the REAL thing.

so that's brain wash to me.

anways....

nothing or all, that's my dilema.

same reason why i don't like the ATI 9000 series,

it's again that something in between thing.

ATI is starting to follow the BAD business practices.

soon enough this benchmarking, comparing, etc etc thing will become pointless with all the in between stuff.

they might as well come up with

9001 9002 9003 9005 etc... same as 4201, 4202, 4204...

they might as well like software and do

4600.1, 4600.2e, 4600.5q, etc...

All Gamer, I dont see it that way at all, why buy a the latest video card, when the ti 4200 or ti 4400 is doing the job just as well,( of course not as good but still good) I can see this idea for mx cards, but they are a different story all together. Also why did some many people buy the Geforce 3 ti 200? I was a good price, and could be oevrclocekd to ti 500 speeds, same as the 4400. I know if I were to biuld a new computer right now I would not even consider the ti 4600, rather a 4400 or 4200.Not everyone can afford the latest video card, and Nvidia does a good job by making a cheaper, but still excellent video card.

anways... enough talk about this right or wrong thing.

everybody has their own ways.
it looks right for people who can affort what is at his/her level, but it looks wrong for people that can not affort it, or for people that can affort it all the way.

Actually you are right,
i remember i was hoping badly for them to make those VR units more affortable.

remember back a year or two ago about the VR craze?

those 3D glaces, with tactile sensor gloves, and those platforms in those expensive arcade places, like Seaga Planet, and other places like that.

then they came out with that game body suit that senses and mimics the stuff in the game, like a punch, a bullet hit and heat and cold, etc.

but after all the big times, news, a year or so later, namely now in days, everyone seems to have forgotten about it, including the manufatures themself.

is just too bad, i wanted a full set of body suit + gloves + real vr glasses + the moving platforms + etc.

then those 1st person shooter games or those Fighting games like Street Fighter and stuff, can do some serious real kick **** funs, when played over the internet.

Maybe in a few years (5-10) we will have to throw our Gf44600,ATi 9700 or Gf10,ATi ...... and get one of these!:D

well like they say "No Pain No Gain"

but don't worry, even the earlier versions of those Game bodysuits have a "sensibility" control

so you can either have it from OFF to High.

but the reviewers, that has tested it even at HIgh, it doesn't hurt at all, just a minor annoyance.

as they described, it suppose to feel like if someone hits you hard with a Pillow or something like that.

show the product receive very low mark for that, but high mark for being so innovative.

that was way back then

and oh yeah it was all wired.

so that sucked the most.

now that everything is going wireless

if they do make a new version and wireless and if it can hurt just a tiny bit more, then i'll be more fun.

Not to be a totol geek or anything....

But I actually programed an Excel spread sheet to take the average price of a specific vid card, and cross reference the cost to an average of performance in various tests(3dmarks, jkII, Max Payne, etc...) From that list of data, I can compare the price/performance of any video card over any other video card.

In the Ti family, the Ti4600 and the Ti 4200 ended up costing more per percentage performance increase (PPI) than a Ti4400.

(looking for SS)

Ti4400 was 10.50 PPI, while Ti4600 and 4200 were 13.34 and 12.91 respectively.

Interestingly enough, the 9700 projects to have the worst PPI at 15.14. All PPI used scores from my Radeon 8500 64mb as the baseline.

God, somewhere along the line all that Engineering method BS got programed in my head. I don't think I'm going to be able to come back. ;)
