Hi!

I want to know if it is possible to use two modems in one computer at the same time? The idea of doing this that if I have two modems going at the same times I am hoping that this will increase my downloads speed and make surfing much faster. I think I had some sort of program a couple of years back that would allow me to do what I want to do, but I can't remember what happened to it.

Please can anyone tell me if the above is at all possible and if so, how might I go about doing it?

Help much appreciatd.

Thanks

Hi, i have no idea if using two modems will help you make your connection faster, however i do know out of first hand experience that you can tweak your registry files and tune your computer, in turn this will give you an increase in internet performance.

I have tried this out myself with my adsl connection.

Hope this helps in some way.

I've heard it called "shotgun" technology and it requires "shotgun" capable modems, and a separate phone line for each.

It is possible to double you speed by using two modems on TWO PHONE LINES. For the extra monthly cost you might as well go for cable or DSL.

KKF's suggestion is valid for 56K modems too. I've done it.

Diamond Multimedia actually was selling Shotgun modems a long time ago (Before being destroyed by S3). If I remember correctly, you could either hook up one of their PCI modems and use their software to link them (over two phone lines, of course), or I think I vaguely remember seeing one single card or external box that took two phone lines and did everything internally.

You can use Windows multilink with basically any two (or even more!) modems. However, your ISP will need to support concurrent logins, because you will be logging in twice on two seperate lines.

Here is a short tutorial on how to configure this setup:

Good Luck,

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for for your help on this subject. Can you tell me:-

1. Must both modems I use be the same i.e. same manufacturer? can I have a combination of ISA and PCI modems?
2.how do I know if the modems are shotgun capable?

Thanks
