I am finding that, for me, cooling my hard drives is a bigger headache than any other cooling problem (I'm not an overclocker). There are plenty of solutions that us a 5.25 inch external drive bay but the hard drives usually end up in a 3.5 inch internal bay. Does anyone know of a cooling product that fits into an internal 3.5 inch bay or a product that effectively directs air onto the hard drives (short of leaving the cover off the case and using a table fan, which I have done with great success)?

On my Quantum LM20 7200 rpm , it ran too hot.

I cut a styrofaoam cup and used yellow weatherstrip adhesive to adhere 1/3rd of the cup to the top of the HD.

I placed a 80mm fan in front of the HD tied it down with plactic cable ties, gluing the fan to the cup/HD.

Cheap quiet and effective, oh btw, I did cut the end partially out of the cup leaving some of the bottom and also cut some pyramids out of the side to allow air to escape.

cost , less than $7.00

Fan, with rpm sensor->>

Let me guess ... IBM drives?

They don't have to be crammed next to each other in the drive bays. Leave some space and let one rest on a piece of paper on the bottom of your case. (Or hang by the ribbon cable if it's not long enough.) Just make sure nothing touches the circuitry on the controller card.
