modem connection speed ?

I have a rockwell HCF 56k data fax pci modem/soundcard. The fastest connection I can hook up at is 46,000. Is there a way to hook up at 56,000?

Two major things effect dial-up connection speed .....1)condition of the existing phone lines .....amount of noise on the line .....amount of traffic on the line ....not much you can do about this.. some lines just wont handle a speed of 56K......3com has a site that will enable you to be able to see if your phone line is capable of handling 56K (unfortunately I dont have the web address for it ..maybe some other member has the addy. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)
2)you need to check for upgrades for your drivers ....go to conexant site and check for an upgrade for your modem ...and one other thing you might try is a modem init. string ...go to your search engine and type "modem init strings" and you will find a passel of sites ..BTW 46,000 and 49,000 are not that bad of a connection speed to begin with ......I hope this helped

Here is the real deal
#1 you will never see 56K as the fastest allowed by the FCC is 53K

#2) if your getting connections of 46k or better SMILE as your in the upper 10% of the fastest connecting modem users on planet earth, the other 90% are lucky to see 33k on there best day
#3)
if you are getting 46k connection speeds or high there is Almost nothing you can do program, tweaks, hardware or otherwise that is going to connect you faster.

Other than getting DSL or CABLE so dont waste your time

I know I get 49,333 with any and every modem I've tried and none of the tweak programs etc, etc, could get my system to connect any faster than that, and I tried them all.

I usually connect at 45k, but sometimes I get 49,333... on rare occasions I get all the way up to 50,666. I normally get 26,700 to 53,333. It just depends on what time of day/week.

Don't sweat it. You're getting 46k. If you want faster, get satellite, cable, or DSL.

90% of the time I connect at 45333 the other 10% I connect at 44000. Never got above 45333 however! I heard somewhere that the distance from the phone exchange has a bearing on quality too. Anything over about a mile or so and the quality goes down> I'm only half a mile from the exchange!!
