OS:Win ME
Dsl connection.
I can get here ok and a few other selected sites, but I am restricted by something?
Suggestions are more then welcome. I just completely reinstalled WIN ME as restore, thought that would help.....NOT!
I spoke with tech support and we went over everything on there end, so I know its my system. Also should add that I have a 2nd sys networked and that hooks up perfect:confused:
thanks,

Are you using a firewall or ad blocking app? Type in ipconfig /flushdns at a command prompt.:)

Are you using a firewall or any ad blocking app?:) Does this happen randomly or only with specific sites? Did you do anything (add an app or change any settings) prior to it happening?:)

OK it's most likely a Zone Alarm problem even after it's unistalled you must manually delete ALOT of files and registry entries some of which will keep you from accessing the internet. Look here (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/support/znalmInstallMeFAQ.jsp) for the detailed instructions on removing everything then go download Tiny Personal Firewall (http://download.com.com/3000-2092-6313778.html?tag=lst-0-1) (this is the free version) because you must have a firewall with a broadband connection or you will get hacked. Good luck, hope this helps.:) :D

Check to see if you have a file named "HOSTS" (no file extension) in your "C:\Windows" folder. If you do, either rename it (to something like "HOSTS.BAK"), or move it to another folder. Then reboot and try the web again.

I went to regedit and searched for "zone alarm" "popup killer" and I deleted everything to do with them.
still cant connect, I truly dont understand.....It has to be a simple function somewhere I a missing. I have reinstalled WIN ME, IE 6.0.......chacked all the connections with tech support.......cant think of ant thing else. Mt KazaA hooks up just fine, My mail opens after 30 seconds, and then it opens lightning fast when I hit send and recieve?

I know why it doesn't work, and it's a real simple stupid thing.
but to be sure install Mozilla or Opera, or a old Netscape to see if that works.
if any of those browsers works on those websites that you can't get with the piece of junk namely IE.
Then what you can do is......
<narrador voice: stay tuned for the next episode of IE sucks>
.... to be continue.

Ok, it's a little more that i thought you had.
Go to Internet properties, and in connection, dissable the option to Autodetect.
also make sure you are not using a Proxy, or anything similar but direct conneciton to the net.
and MAKE SURE, you have set up DNS properly.

Allgamer, Perhaps the DNS server is being stupid for a while. If you can get to other links with no problem then it is probably just a bad hair day for the server you are trying to connect too. Try again another time. :t

wallijonn,
most of your questions can be answered in previous post........I do have a switch, however I have bypassed all that and went direct to this single PC and it did not make difference.
No DSL software.
PPoE?????

well, lets try something slightly more DRASTIC!
uninstall the TCP/IP
uninstall the NIC
reboot
reinstall both, and use DHCP settings
if you do not Need the DSL dial up software.
