Is there a way to prevent Windows 2000 from writing to hard drive after it (the HD) powers down?
My guess is that Win2k, a service, or a program, needs to write something to the HD.
I'll leave my computer alone for a while, the HD will power down, and a few minutes later the HD revs up again!!! It will do this a couple times before finally staying powered down.

That was me hacking you. Sorry for bothering you. JUST KIDDING.
Do you have DSL or cable and maybe a firewall setup?

I had a firewall and ICS (through a modem) setup on my computer and the HD would not power down AT ALL.
Both of those things are now on a dedicated server and, along with moving my HD from the Raid controller to the standard IDE port, and the HD now powers down. It just doesn't stay that way. The only apps I run when I leave my computer are AIM and MBM5. Closing both of those doesn't help.
I thought I had seen a way to prevent NT from accessing the disks while they were powered down. Hopefully there is something similar for Win2k.

Are you running RC5? As a hint never try to defrag when running it! Just one idea.
All the best, Justy.

No, I'm not running RC5. I have the problem even when all apps are closed.
