I have reinstalled windows 98, the installation was w/o any problems, I was installing from the CD. Then in windows i could use my cd-rom. Then I have restared the computer. BIOS finds CD-ROM, as the IDE1 slave. Then it says Boot From the ATAPI: Failure, even though the windows cd is in the drive. I cannot use CD-rom in windows either. it is there but when i put in the CD, it just blinks rapidly for like a minute, then stops, and I can't still get into the CD drive! Is my cd-rom busted?

It is a generic 44X

before doing anything else, it is well worth your time to check all of the cables attatched to the cdrom, or to try and put the cdrom in another computer and see if it works there.

good luck

Ditto,
also check that the disc's are clean. It can make a difference.

All the best, Justy.
