hi im planning to format my harddisk in near future. my question is.. do i have to run fdisk to delete and create partitions everytime before reformatting certain drive? i have 46gig partitioned to c http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif22gig) and d: (22gig),im only going to format c:
is it ok to just run format c: without running fdisk at all? or should i just delete primary partition c: and recreate then format without touching extended patition d:.

As long as you're not going to change the partition size from what you have now, running FDISK will not be necessary... you can just run format.

Hi,

It is OK to format c: without using fdisk. I have done just that a few times.

Be aware that if d: is used by progs on c: and vica-versa then some of the progs on d: may not work after formatting c:

In english: I have my apps on d: and windoze on c: If I format c: and reload windows then my apps on d: will not work because all the registry entries, etc will be gone.

Make sense?

Only true to some extent. Many apps will run, depending on how much they require the registry and specific .dlls. But some will need reinstalling.
