I know HiVal went under, but i also know they were bought by someone "committed to turning HiVal around" ok..... so what happened to all those rediculisly fast/expensive CD-Rom drives (i figure hey, buy the fastest one, its doubtful cd's will get much better, just take the same drive with you into each new system)

I didn't think Kenwood went under. They were the ones creating and selling the TrueX multibeam CD-ROM drives. Last time I was in CompUSA (a month ago at most), I recall seeing Kenwood drives on the shelves.

one minor correction, TrueX is NOT Kenwood's technology, Kenwood doesn't even build the drives. Kenwood only badges them.
