So when's Bill G coming over to dinner with his jack booted thugs ??
According to the stats on microscmhucks website 24% of all software being used today is pirated.
As much as I'm not entirely in agreement with billy boys eula concerning the software "license" I purchased ($89 oem xp pro) It's what I installed in the new box I built saturday night. And yes when I run it side by side with my 98 se box, both with a fresh install of sygate firewall, the xp box is constantly trying to send out info to the microschmucks servers where the 98se box just reports what I open. Whats Bill wanna know?? who to sell a e-mail spam list to? Ok he likes cars ... sell his name to road and track.
I go to get my music and oops! I've just violated my eula. if I hook up to play UT with a group of people, OOps I did it again. Sorry brittany. I wonder how many Irrate "license owners" are gonna call up screamin and yellin because they changed their vid card or hdd or nic, or re-loaded for the umpteenth time and are now being told they have to call some cretin to explain why they are in need of reactivation. prolly aint even a toll free call, is it?.
By charging what billy boy does for his product he actually attracts piracy. Hmmmmmmmmm how many copies of xp has been sold to date? $299 for a full install of xp pro. Now thats high seas piracy. If you sell it for a reasonable price most people will just say it's not worth it to take the chance and download some copy of XP pro corporate, onlt to find it full of virii. Or if it does work end up having microschmuck shutting it and their box down with an "update"... How many times have you heard geniuses bragging how they got their XP for free, and say " I can even update it without any hassles" how many rogue copies of XP are out there with the serials that begin "FCKGW-RHQQZ"
not to worry I won't post the rest of that one. LOL.
So while this box runs XP pro (legally) my older box, a 1.2 celley o/c'd to 1.5 on a soyo board with an 8500 ati card in it. Will be experiencing the wonderful world of linux (mandrake 8.2). and if all works well in the open source world, my new box will get it as well.
