Hi all, as you may know im gearing up to but a gf4 ti4200, and now the paycheque is in :D:D, all i gotta do is cash it and wahey :)
thing is im having last minute doubts,
i was intending to get a
Inno3D GeForce4 Ti4200 128Mb DDR DVI TV-Out AGP for £140
I knew the 128's were clocked lower than the 64mb variants, but was thinking -- oh okay - i'll just Oc it back up.
However today i was lookign about and realised just how much slower they are clocked overall (11% slower performance ).
i had been told the 128 cam in useful at higher res, however as im on a 17" monitor, i only run at 1024 x 768 usually, therefore running in mega high res isnt so important as speed is to me.
So i am now also considering the following
MSI MS-8870 GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb DDR DVI TV-Out Retail for £130.
However i want this card to be a long lasting investment and want whichever will be the most futureproof, also which of the two is the most overclockable as i intend to be doing soem tweakign and want the best results i can possibly get.
Cheers

Unless you play games at 1600x1200 with 4x fsaa!! you wont need the 128mb card!
The 64mb is more than enough even for the future.!!
You will be able to play all the games of the future!

Never buy for the future as in the future it will be outdated. :p
The 64mb version would be better for you as you say you run at normal resolutions. Plus it is clocked higher.

beautifully put gibsneb besides the cost of a decent graphics card has dropped way down compared to 6 months ago, i recently got a gainward ti4200 64 and this card is great with the latest games even at 1600x1200 only cost £135

I agree dont buy for the future, buy what is good now and be happy. The next release in the future could be better, it could be worse, but most of the time it is better and comes with a nicely raised price tag.
The next card could be a 32MB card that runs at outragouse speeds, speed and memory go hand in hand, and then again they dont, it all depends on you system.

go for the 64 mb one. I made the mistake of getting a 32 mb tnt2 .Sure, it still runs the games that are out today becuase it has the extra memory. TOO BAD IT RUNS THEM SLOW AS
:) you should see warcraft 3, lowest settings possible, still only 20 fps, drops to 2 or 3 fps in big fights

--Back again,
with more, fresh seeds of doubt :(
I was intending to order an
MSI MS-8870 GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb DDR DVI TV-Out Retail
when i noticed the
Gainward Ultra 650 GeForce4 64Mb Retail Boxed
goign for not a lot more, im curious to which card is better, as i have seen comparisons, but it was agains the 128mb variant of the gainward, therefore the o/c'ing results and low res results favoured the MSI.
So -- whats the verdict from you guys...which card should be the best all around for gamesplaying??

The MSI is 3.6NS so its not a huge difference really :( . The Software and overall bundle on the MSI is MUCH MUCH better, however i have only read a revew of the 128mb Gainward so i am unusre as to hwo it will o/c in comparison

flullycow what kind of system do you have? I have played MOHAA on my tnt2 32Mb and it runs well I have 256RAM and a 1.1Ghz celeron A.
What are you using? The min specs for Warcraft is only 8mb of ram, and a p2 400 (or is it 450?)
I may even be able to play on my 2 year old laptop.

whats your 3dmark score? I might have something wrong with my card. It also runs americas army at a crawl even at its lowest settings, and I see funky texture corrruption too. I have 900 athlon and ddr 256 mb ram. Maybe its the drivers? I don't know. I just don't wanna shell out more money for a new card.
