I tried to install linux with the hard drives on the onboard ata/100 ports today, but had no luck. I got a message stating that I had no hard drives in my computer on which to create partitions, and therefore I couldn't continue. So I was hoping those of you who have already done this could tell me if theres something special I have to do.
Mandrake 7.2 Asus A7V

also do you know why I get a "disk boot failure" message when I attach the hd's to the ata/100? I can just hit enter and everything runs fine, but I'd kinda like to get rid of that message.

Thanks

for the disk boot failure problem, enable the virus protection in the BIOS or upgrade to 1005D from here:
http://www.amdzone.com/files/bios/asus/a7v/a7v1005d.zip

for ata100:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Ultra-DMA-5.html

and some kernel patches
http://www1.us.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/

hope that helped

but I just checked asus last night and they said the newest was 1005c (I have 1005b)
So enabeling virus boot protection should fix it?

As to the problem at hand: how do I get to a command prompt during the installation of mandrake to do that?
