I'm using a Relisys Mercury 3600 paralell scanner on the following system,

AMD k6-2 450
Jetway J-542b mobo
196mb SDRAM (1 x 128, 1 x 64)
Voodoo 3 3000 tv AGP
and pleanty of hard drive space.

1st, when scanning in images at 600dpi at true colour (which is about half what the scanner can do) the pics are about 25-30mb (BMP) at their original size?? So when i save them as Jpg they are still about 5 -10mb. Why is this when u can download pics from the net, like cd covers at about a few kb???? not mb? Is there anything i can do to reduce the size of the files??

2nd, when trying to copy and past using Office Photo Draw, paint, imagine, paint shop etc.... it will not do it, keeps saying out of memory !! or the clipboard is full!!

Using Win ME or 98 gives the same problem!

Help anyone?

Thanx in advance

#1 becouse your scanning them at 600dpi thats way to much 300dpi max is all you need for prints, if your just veiwing the pictures on your computer 100dpi is all you need
and if your posting them on the web 75dpi is fine.

as for the out of memory and clipboard full thats becouse the files are 25+megs in size.

I save all my pictures at 100dpi jpg from the start unless I want to play with them, make changes in size (bigger) or color, postion etc, etc, then I save them at 150 or 200dpi as tif files.
