Is this Normal?

My brother just upgraded his computer and he thinks he should be getting a better score on 3dMark2001. He's getting 8600 with default settings, no AA. Here's the specs:

Gigabyte GA-7VRX
Athlon XP 2000+ w/volcano 7+
512MB DDR333 from OC System
ATI Radeon 8500 LE/Hybrid @250/275
Western Digital 40GB ATA100 5400rpm HDD
Windows XP Pro

I got similar score with my P4 1.8 o/c to 2.3 RAMBUS setup and same video card. And I'm not happy. I'm not blaming ATI for their poor drivers, but that could be the problem.

That score is good for the 8500!!

I think it normal ..

People get the same score with a Gf4ti200!!

Thanks for all the posts. He doesn't like the way it handles AA so he's trying to get rid of it and get a GeForce. Well, read HERE (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111962) to see everything he says about it.
