Actually I'm a real pain in the hind quarters when it comes to haggling.
I got the board n cpu together as a package for $329.
The mem cost me $105 a stick. Vid card was $129.
The burner I got oem so it was $49. The heat sink and fan ran me $38. And the HDD's were 60 ea.
I paid cash and have a resale #. 1st vendor i was gonna buy from said he would give me a good discount. I was gonna get a soyo dragon ultra (p4), but through him all the stuff came out to a grand, and he offered me a $10 discount on it all ...Gee wadda sport. I told him to put it back on the shelf and tear up the receipt.
Good thing i dont understand cantonese. Cause he turned all red and started screaming as I walked away to check out the next vendor.

Thanks Grim! 3 years ya say? If there was ever a person bitten by the comp building bug it has to be me.. Prolly better off sayin " let's see how long this one keeps ya amused" LOL. But seriously I also picked this board cause it looks to be one that will be able to keep up as the P4 gets faster.

Update!
I removed that thermalright HS and vantec tornado fan and put the stock intel fan on. Temps are fine. Soundwise, far more civilized. Thought I was trapped in a blowdryer. I took the fan and plugged it in while holding it and it's actually so strong it acted like a gyroscope when I moved my hand.

The ones that Intel makes are really quiet and effective. It would be nice if they would make 3rd-party HSFs for Athlons!
Nice system, Bushwhacker. :p

Thanks Bill (manic maven of cyber knowledge) . And Grim, I've already had it up to 2.7 ghz with barely a rise in temp. But at 2.26 ghz who really needs to O/C.

Bill, Bill, Bill. nit picking again are we Heehee. Case I had here. Same company that produces them for antec, it's a 1040 server tower with a 420 watt psu, cost me $80. It's what I use to build a pc for anybody, I keep a bunch here. Also the same co. now makes that case in aluminum with a blow hole and a full size window on the access door for $149 retail. Fdd's I get brand new, oem, black or white face $9 (sony)... Vat....Vat ia a Vat?
Total cost of system was $926 U.S.
Ya wanna add in keyboard n mouse n monitor ok I get IBM keyboards for $20, logitec trackball mouse $19, and I buy refurb monitors from a known source at $129 for 19". I havent even installed the soundcard yet. Whats the formula for dollars to pounds?

VAT = value added tax. Common in Europe.

That Vantec tornado fan was your BLOWDRYER. Those things move well near a 100cfm, but they also move near 50dB, try mountin another fan on that Thermaltake HS. Then your temps wont be ok, they will be cool (Pun intented)
I just picked me up a system that runs like this:
AMD 2100+ CPU
Soyo Dragon Ultra
2x 20gb maxtor 7200 rpm HDD
Ti 4600 GeForce 4
256 mb DDR ram + Heatsink
Nic
Modem
3/4 full tower Scropion case-Heavy SOB too
Yamaha 20x10x32 -I think know it is a 20 x write
52x cdrom
floppy
and some extra twist ties and wire ducts
As well as a Cold Cathode black light.
All this for ~$920 which includes the shipping on everything.
Thought I did pretty good.
