I'm using a HP CDRW 9100i burner with HP Record Now & Roxio CD Creator software. When I burn files to a clean disk, It works fine but when I want to add files to the same disk, it asks to insert a new disk. This happens in both softwares. The CD-RW disk in properties shows that it is full but there is only 145mbs burnt on the disk. I have tryed this on other disks and same results. What could be the problem here?

Directcd will format the rest of the space for drag and drop operations.

I'm using Windows XP, don't think that Direct CD is compatible.

What you're trying to do is make a multisession disc, but you can't because when you burn the first time you have to specify it is going to be multisession and not close the disc (but close the session). When the disc is closed no matter how little data it has on it, you cant add anymore.

It doesn't give me the option to select multisession or close session. Only when I burn a CD-R disk.
Is there another program that I can use to format my CD-RW disks other then Direct CD?

Hello,
Open your coping program up....start at the first program option click on it an follow its tree on out, find out every thing that is in the program. Do this for each header on your toolbar in the program. This way you can find out every thing your program can do.

In Roxio CD Creator Platinum 5, the only way you can format a CD-RW disc is with Direct CD. I had to uninstall it when I upgraded to Windows XP. What a mess that was to even get CD Creator to work in XP.
I also downloaded Nero 5.5 but there is no provision to format a CD-RW disc.

That's why I hate packet writting.

Formating a CDRW presumes you're going to use it as a floppy drive (i.e. drag/drop data on it). This is proprietary and needs special software to read in other PC's.

You don't need to format a CDRW to use it. If it's blank you use it as if it was a CDR. If it's got data you need to blank it (erase it) which you can do from nero from the Recorder drop down. Quick blanking will only delete the TOC and it is fine most of the time, otherwise (if the disc has an unfinished session etc) you need to fully blank it (it takes as much time as recording 650MB on it).

Anyhow, once you start Nero, chose ISO data disc, and chose start multisession. When you are about to burn do not tick close disk!.

When you want to add more data, put the disk in, go to new ISO disc as before and now chose Continue Multisession.

If you need help on proprietary packet writing then sorry but you're SOL. The above is the procedure to burn standard and universal (i.e you can continue the multisession on a different box with different software) way.

As for Roxio, it's so "user friendly" they manage to confuse everybody (like they use Mode2 for their standard format that is NOT readable by most systems) with their "user friendly" terminology that instead of sayin "cache files" says "slower but safer" and we then all need to transalate that.

Use Nero, as it is straight forward and works perfectly.

I downloaded Nero and I was able to add files to my CD-RW disc:)
I'll still keep using Roxio for my audio CD burning features. Like it better then Nero for that purpose. Also I use Music Match to do all my ripping of CD's. Wish there was one product that would satisfy me for all three procedures. Thanks for helping out.

a new session and always be added when a previous burning had closed the first session. what you have here is a soft ware that locks your disc after burning. try to find and options which disables CD LOCKING

A client machine is running Direct CD 5.1.0.209 and ROCKS on WIN XP PRO!

I looked all over for CD Locking but can't find it anywhere. Not in CD Creator, Nero, or HP Record Now. I even looked in properties for my HP CD-RW 9100i burner.
Is that Direct CD 5.1.0.209 software update in the Roxio web page? Thanks Vic

I downloaded Direct CD which was version 5.1.2600.0. Everything worked fine and nothing crashed my computer:). I can now format my CD-RW discs and add files to the present disc which has files on it already. Thanks Vic
