I have a IRQ problem. I have a peice of hardware i want to install which requires its own IRQ #. It looks like all of the IRQ's are used. I noticed that com ports 1+2 both have their own IRQ # and I never ever use them. How do you disable them so I could use the IRQ???Thanks.

You can disable them in the bios.

There is always a place in the BIOS to disable the COM ports. They may be set to auto so look for IRQ3, 4, or auto.
You can disable them all you want but you still will NEVER be able to use either IRQ 3 or 4 with another device!!!
What OS are you using? Win2k and XP will set the IRQ's to sharing with rarely any problems.

Look under Features or Integrated Peripherals for your Serial Ports #1 and #2. Disable them if your not using the serial ports. This will free up some IRQ resourses.
What needs its own IRQ? vid card? Or are you saying the device needs a particular IRQ assign to it?

Check if the PCI Bus has IRQ sharing enabled in the device manager. It should allow you to share IRQ's with more than one device.

I'm afraid that's not so!
Touch screen monitors MUST share COM1/2 IRQ's in order to function...

I found what you were talking about Rocketmech and disabled them. Then I was able to manually set my card to one of the free IRQ's and now it works fine. Thanks!!!! By the way it was a 24 bit analog/ digital audio converter pci card.

And how many home users have a touch screen monitor?
A touch screen monitor is still a "serial mouse" mounted to the front os a standard monitor.
ALL serial devices (mouse, plotter, modem, printer) will ONLY ever use IRQ4 (COM1/COM3) and IRQ3 (COM2/COM4). There has never been a serial device which used a different IRQ than IRQ3 or IRQ4.

Samsung's POS touch screen monitors v4 use COM 1 or 2 depending on which port you connect it.
You must then change it's IRQ to the respective COM IRQ

I understand that, but the touchscreen is still acting as if it is a mouse and since it is using the COM ports, nothing else can use the IRQ's like I said in my earlier posts.
