Perhaps Compaq embeds some info in the SPD EEPROM. I doubt it can be replicated by lowly users like us. Memory failure is so rare, I'd just throw in the cheapest Lifetime sticks I could find and run with it.

"being able to replace parts before they fail" sounds like a knack that would make a lot of money on Wall Street. (Or maybe just sell a lot of unneeded new memory.) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks to those who answered me before, I apologize, but I didn't make myself clear. I know Compaq actually manufactures their own memory and has some serious R&D for their memory. They also have a software program called Insight Manager that can detect for faulty parts through out the pc system and generate reports to a central server or to the end user. (The benefit is being able to replace parts before they fail there by reducing down time.)

The question that I am wondering is this:

If I buy Kingston compatible or even Kingston Value Ram ( both priced around $0.65 a meg*)is there an application or technology available to emulate the Compaq memory or duplicate the Insight Manager software?
*Compaq Memory runs around $2.20Mb+.

I appreciate any opinion, advice, or comments.
