Well its 2001 so no suprise there. Really was a revolutionary OS for that time. Notice how recent Windows releases don't last that long? I wonder if Whistler will be the next revolutionary OS.

Revolutionary alright! That was the biggest change I've seen for the GUI since Win 3.1. Win95, NT4, Win2K, Win2001 all seem to resemble....

I guess that means Windows 3.11 is no longer officially supported?

"Windows 95 doesn't work with a number of new devices coming on the market, so its exit from the market is inevitable." That is because (unlike Linux) Micro$oft doesn't allow kernel upgrades -it's a profit tha'ng.

Why doesn't M$ do what they did with LAPD fleet services and give free unlimited Windows 95 workstation licenses with the stipulation that as part of the agreement ALL NON-MICROSOFT APPLICATIONS MUST BE REMOVED? -talk about monopoly

BTW - the Win95 B&C versions were okay if you had decent hardware to run them on.

Not bad for an OS that came without even a SPELL CHECK!

Hmm, I'll wager Microsh*t puts in alittle code that purposely makes the new apps incompatible w/W95 (probably reads the Windoz version in the registry to invoke it).

I still don't understand why people bash Microsoft...if YOU had the talent and the backing and the power that they have what would you do different?? don't just go posting nonsense to bash them but be realistic.....every company is in business to make money and so is Microsoft...doesn't matter if you disagree with the way they run it..it works and works well...no one gets to be a billionaire running a shabby organization with products that no one wants and will not buy...maybe its an underlying jealously here....you tell me...Do you dislike all the major CEO's as well of all the major companies in the world because they will not do as you want them to also?? Look at perfume...the average cost of perfume is $768 a gallon and we complain about $1.50 for gas...do you think it costs $768 to make a gallon of perfume??..maybe not the best anology but you get the point...its all about making money and Microsoft does it well....very very well

I don't understand it either....Why so much hatred towards MS? Isn't that what most of your are using as you all bash away?

IMO, I could care less who is behind MS or Linux or all the other OS's that are being developed. The important thing to me is that all my hardware and software I need to use runs on the OS... A personal computer just wouldn't be anything but a pile of **** without the OS....

The way I see it, if someone doesn't like MS, it's their choice not to use Windows, MS Office, etc... Personally, I love Windows! Windows allows me to enjoy all the applications that are available for it today... I may have to pay an unpleasant price for MS OS's, but I feel that I'm getting my moneys worth....just my personal opinion... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Let's be serious people..... As you type this MS bashing message, I'm sure most of you are doing it using MS Windows..... except CMonster. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Why not do it on BeOS or Linux or all the other OS's that are free? I think you know it as well as I do why.... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Perhaps similar to the reason that I have a PC and a MAC. Mac for work and PC for play.. I hate MAC's for the poor selection of apps that they have.... But I like it for the performance it has for graphic applications Vs. PC... on the other hand, I hate the way graphic applications run on PC's, but I like the selection of apps that are available for Windows that just isn't available for MAC OS....

When there are no alternatives even a car that stalls every so often is better than no car at all.

I'm not exactly MS bashing, but expressing my distain for monopolistic practices.

I agree that any company has a right to make a profit. But they should play by the rules. It is a fact that MS tried to create applications that would not run on DR-DOS (as evidenced by actual MS inter-office memos that were produced in a lawsuit Caldera vs Microsoft), and when Billy G. discovered that was impossible he had the programmers put in a nasty warning about not using MS-DOS. BTW- MS settled for a large undisclosed amount estimated at 100+ million. Details used to be available on the Caldera site.

Also, what I wrote about MS and the LAPD is true - can you imagine that LAPD's fleet services had to remove all the Corel Office products that they (we) had been using (=already licensed) and purchase MS products instead?

Furthermore: What I would do different is to be honest about kernel upgrades and offer the fixes for my Win9x OS as a service to my customers rather than offering to sell them as completely new Operating systems/ upgrades. The question comes to mind, "How many times do I have to purchase Windows?"

Thankfully there are now viable alternatives to MS-Windows, hardware driver support is growing, and applications are being ported.

My (small) beef isn't against Micro$$ programmers & developers, who have done an exemplary job, but w/the management. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.......
